I've been living in the missions since Beta IV started and I consider myself fairly informed on how they work, I'll go into detail about missions in this post and if there's anything missing you've got to consider I still have some more things to learn about the game. Also these missions I have done were as a Soldier so there might be a few things that dont apply to everyone.

Missions Generators:

So far I've only been doing missions in Athens, but this report might apply to all of the towns. The mission generators are mostly located near the middle of town. There always seems to be two mission generators right next to each other, one of them is for solo play and one is for grouping which you need to buy a key duplicator to allow another person else in. I've done many solo and group missions and I've never really noticed any difference between the two, except maybe a slight increase in toughness with group, but that may just be my imagination. Like every other machine in the game just right click it at close range to open the generator menu. Most of the missions are located right in the same town zone, but once you reach level 10+ you will only get one or two missions for the same zone and the rest will make you run around till your in the right zone.

Getting a Mission:

When you right click a mission generator you get a pop-up window, here you can adjust many factors for the missions to your specifications. Mainly you can choose the difficulty from easy to hard, try not to be a hero your first time out. There's a little down arrow near the generate missions button that will open up the other options to choose from. The options you get to choose from are:

- Good - Evil (your alignment I'd assume)
- Order - Chaos (layout I believe)
- Forward - Sneaking (do you want to sneak or just all out attack?)
- Phsy - Myst (I assume this is physical combat or more nano oriented)
- Head on - Stealth (Do you want to sneak around or not?)
- Money - XP (do you want experience or money?).

When you alter the options you will be given different types of missions as well, so experiment and find what you like. Once your done adjusting your options just click the generate mission button and different missions will appear in the 6 empty slots at the top of the mission menu, I've only seen 5 missions generate at a time so far. Now you get to choose the type of mission and reward you want to take on, just shift - left click a mission and it'll show you the details of the mission and if you scroll all the way to the bottom of this new window it'll show the item that you will get as a reward for finishing this mission, you can just click the item to get the information about it. One nice feature of the mission generator is you can keep clicking generate missions over and over until you get the reward you like, this is a great feature in my opinion for it let me build an armor suit of blue so I could be styling, it also let me gather specific weapons, nano formulas and miscellaneous items. If you want you can be very picky on what you want as a reward or just accept ones with something nice, this is basically the easiest way to gear up as a young player in Rubi-Ka.

Types of Missions:

Find a person - Simple enough, you go thru the mission area until you find the named person described in the mission description (Shift - Left click), just click on the person and get close, soon the mission will be accomplished. There are two variations of this I have seen, find a missing person and spy on a person, both still are done the same way.
When you get your reward you can kill the person you were sent to find freely, if you've got an evil streak hehe.

Rescue/Repair Mission - These missions come in two variations that I have seen, first you must rescue a few people by delivering a vial to a special reactor. Inside the mission just run around until you find a white machine with vials and a white box on it, once you find the reactor just target it and get in close range, left click the vial you were given and drag it over the reactor then just right click. For the other mission you're given a part that looks like an NCU unit, you must find a floating orb in the mission area. Now don't confuse the orb your in search for with the hologram globes you see is some missions, the orb looks different and doesn't have a ring around it. Once you find the orb just target it and get in close range, left click the part you were given and drag it over the orb then just right click. After doing these your mission should be complete, if not keep trying at a closer range or different spots, your arm will move if done right usually.

Assassination - Name says it all, your mission is to seek out a named person listed in the mission description and kill him. Pure and simple, only thing weird about these missions are they seem to only give nano formulas as rewards.

Recover Stolen Information - This mission as well comes in two types, both missions require you to find the stolen information in the mission area. Keep your eyes on the floors for this mission, the object your looking for will just be sitting on the ground. One of the objects is a pyramid looking item with question marks on it; it'll look like a construction kit once in your inventory. The second item to find will be a cube with question marks and if I remember right will also look like a construction kit in your inventory. When you place your cursor over either item the cursor will change to a hand grabbing a circle, just double click the item and it'll go into your inventory. Now this is where many people get confuse, where is my reward? Is the quest bugged? No, you have to take the recovered item back to the same mission generator you used to make this mission, when you find the same mission generator target it, left click and drag the item over the generator then just right click. Your mission should be complete, if not you need to get closer or your at the wrong generator, again your arm will move if done right usually.

Recover Details - This mission seems to appear when you reach level 10+ or at least it did for me. This mission is very similar to the stolen information mission, you are to find an item listed in the missions details (Shift - Left Click) and bring back details on it. Basically you just need to find a cube on the ground with question marks on it and pick it up by double clicking it, when in your inventory it'll become the item as listed, for example: I had a mission to find sleeves. Once you find the object your looking for the mission will be complete and you'll be one reward higher plus you get to keep the item you found, two rewards for one mission is pretty nice.

Find/eliminate item: Here your in search of a "dangerous" item that you will need to put into containment for safety reason. The item you find will be on the floor and look like a pyramid or cube with question marks on it, dont worry about it being dangerous, it wont hurt you in any way. Just put your cursor over the item and double click it to put it into your inventory and finish the mission.

Recover Lost Art: This mission is somewhat simular to recoving the stolen information mission, your job is to find a pyramid with question marks, this'll be located on the ground somewhere. Instead of picking the art container up you just need to target it and move in close, after a few second the mission will be complete. You cant pick up this item so dont get annoyed if you try.

Where to go:

I've been getting many questions about where people need to go to enter their mission and the answer is pretty simple, open up your mission menu on the top right corner of your screen and right click/hold the current mission, then just click upon the arrow in a box that appears from doing this and it'll upload the information you will need to find the place. When you upload your mission data it makes a white star-like mark on your mini-map showing exactly where the mission room is, but sometimes the mark is off your map screen so if you look at the bottom of your screen you will see a compass, just turn around until you see a yellow line on the compass that will lead you toward where you need to be. Should you upload your mission and not get a mark or line your probably in the wrong zone for this quest, shift - left click the mission and read the details for which zone this mission is for.

Treasure:

Located inside the missions are many treasure chests of untold riches, junk or nothing. Usually in each mission there are around 4-8 treasure chests waiting for you, when you find one just right click it and it'll open up a mini-inventory window for you, here just left click the items and they'll automatically transfer to your inventory, be sure not to right-click these items for it auto-equips them and it will make any items in that slot vanish until the bug is fixed. I've had many items of the same type disappear in this way from treasure chests, I once lost a helmet I had by right clicking a hood that's clothing not armor so don't think clothes are a different story. Inside chests you can find almost anything from weapons, armor, nano formulas, trade skill items, implants, martial artist moves, and so on or you can find absolutely nothing. The chests seem to be random so don't get annoyed if a mission or two gives you nothing of value.

Exploring:

I always make it a point to totally explore a mission area even after I finish the mission to look for treasure chests and fight NPCs, when a mission is done you don't have to leave until your ready. The makers AO included a great feature for missions, when you use your mini-map it only shows places you've explored in the mission, so you can use this as a reference of where you've been and where you need to go. When you first enter the missions don't let the layout fool you, usually it looks all straight forward and easy to navigate, but in fact once you leave the main area the rooms will start going every which way the autogenerator decided. Be sure to look at the walls of any room your in for doors, I've missed a few because I wasn't paying attention. Inside cave missions finding every door can be a lot harder because of the rough layout, but there is a benefit to them as well. Inside cave missions you will sometimes see an orange square appear on your mini-map, these represent hidden passages, just walk thru the wall where you see one to enter. Inside hidden areas you will usually find a monster and/or treasure chests, I once found 3 treasure chests in one hidden area so they are worth looking at. One thing to careful of inside the missions are traps, once and a while the mission will give you a challenge and add these to the mission area, these traps seem to be only attached to doors and treasure chests so be sure to heal up wounds before you open these. One nice side of traps are that they hurt the nearby NPCs as well, but they seem to heal and a horrific rate so attack them as soon as you can to stop their healing.

Combat:

Now to the section we've all been waiting for, Fighting! Fighting inside missions differs a lot from outside, all enemies in the mission area will attack you on sight, but thankfully you have to be at very close range for this to happen. The main difference of missions is since its separated by rooms is that if you attack inside a room you will not be attacked by surrounding NPCs which makes it pretty safe, also they tend to only put one NPC in a room. The main danger of these missions seems to be the main room; here you will usually find 2-4 NPCs roaming around which can be a pain. When you damage an NPC everything in the same room seems to attack even at a very long distance or if their view is blocked. NPCs at a distance will not attack until you hurt them, so you can be totally missing your shot and they wont even give you a second look until you do damage. Another aggression factor is that if you're being attacked this wont make anything else in the room attack you. A couple of tricks to deal with the main room problem are:

1. If you can get an NPC far away from everything in the room you can sometimes attack it freely.

2. Another way is to let an NPC target you then run into an empty room, once the NPC leaves the main room you can attack it and nothing else will attack you if the new room is empty even if they walked by the door. Ranged NPCs are a little harder, you need to run away while being attacked until your out of shooting distance then they will follow you.

3. Go full out, find a close NPC and attack it, flingshot it and burst it, if you're a gunslinger, then sit and wait till your attacks kill it if its not dead already. Be sure to loot the corpse and get your money, after doing this I tend to be under attack by many sources so I exit the mission to heal then re-enter the mission to continue this cycle until the main room is cleared.

4. Just avoid them period. If the main room just proves too much trouble you can always just run when no ones close to you, when I do this I make sure the coast is clear then run to the next door. You can also sneak past the NPCs if you dont get too close, the agression range seems to be about 5-6 virtual feet.

Gun using NPCs can shoot thru walls and doors so don't think you can hide from it. Many NPCs seem to be nano crazy casting many nano formulas while in combat, many of which vanish too fast for me to even know what happened. The formulas I usually get hit by I recognize are root/holding nanos, a slowness nano, a general damage nano (been hit for usually 50-70 at lower levels) and a health funnel (usually 50 damage that gives some life to the caster). Needless to say the damage nano formulas are harsh and can make one run in a hurry, to avoid the damage formulas I've learn that when an NPC casts you can run in the opposite direction and the NPC will run after you thus interrupting the nano formula, I keep doing this over and over if I want to avoid a formula and it works every time I've done it. A tactic I use in missions is if you open a door and see an enemy, target it and back away then attack, your shot will go thru the door until you hit him thus getting the first attack and if you miss one or two times the NPC wont attack you. A another combat trick I've learned that will work anywhere is switching weapons, I have two guns hotkeyed, one a powerful slow gun and one a fast weaker gun, I target a monster or NPC then attack with the big gun doing a normal attack, flingshot and sometimes burst if the monster is hard enough, then I switch back to my smaller gun to hit a lot faster and finish the job.

Installation and Requirements
-----------------------------

1/ Before using this tool you must install WinPcap from "http://netgroup-serv.polito.it/winpcap/". (WinXP users *must* use the latest v2.3beta)

2/ This tool will only work if you access the internet via an Ethernet network card. It will *not* work for people using dialup modems. This is a requirement of WinPcap, there isn't anything I can do about it, sorry.

3/ You need to run AO in Window mode. If you run in full screen, you will not be able to see the AO Mission Display window, as it needs to hover over the game.
