Patch de Janvier vu par DT (Anglais) :)

Par Lagoon le 15/1/2003 à 21:05:54 (#3030639)

This is a FPDoMS production. If i hurt anyones feelings it's meant in jest. If my grammar sucks, I blame it on being dropped as a baby. Delete me.

- C A C O P H O N Y -

The chaos, first seen in the Drudge incursions on the continent of Osteth for a total of 15 minutes by players who mysteriously received AC2 for christmas, has spread to Omishan, the ancestral lands of the Tumeroks. These threats may have seemed exceedingly pointless and low level just a few weeks before, much less NOW, but the ingenuity and pure boredom of the mortal races, mixed with MA/IF quests boosting players to level 20+, has risen to the challenge.

Many crafters, 99.995% of them on other servers, satisfied with Furries(tm) and the arduous nature of crafting some items, have simplified (or given up on) the process of creating and enhancing many of their products. Others have found better ways to obtain the materials needed for crafting items, making it possible for everyone to be well equipped to face the challenges ahead. Since item loot won't be in the game until the next presidential election, your only worry is that bloodthirst wears out! It is even rumored that one ingenious crafter has found a means to craft powerful potions to restore one's health and vitality, which will hopefully stack because you're getting hit for 800 points of damage a round and most that potion will heal you for 200.

- H I G H L I G H T S -

Omishan Quests: Now there is something else to do here aside from Vakentu's. Vakentu's will still be the best quest to grief on, by far, so don't bother with the new quests. All the laughs you need can still be found in Ikeras.

Monster Quests: While you are sticking buruns in trees, occasionaly EVEN MORE different types of glowing SpaceBuruns(tm) will spawn, giving you bonus experience for no apparent reason. Again, don't fret, you can stick these guys in the trees with equal ease.

More Chat Enhancements: Wow, trying to read text over 75% of the textures in this game is impossible. We here at Turbine, having all just reached level 10, figured out that this sucks. We now attempt to make it possible to read normal text without moving your camera for 45 seconds in vain.

As mentioned in January's Letter to the Players, we're introducing three new types of chat channels in this episode. Full details on how these channels work are in the Letter, but the table below briefly summarizes these channels:

General /cg Entire game world : in case you want an EVEN BIGGER E-PENIS, an enlargement utility is a simple Shift+4 away!
Regional /cr Sub region the character is currently in : ECHO!!! ECHO??
Trade /ct A small region surrounding each town : "HEHEHE NE1 HALF AN GOOD SWROD 4 ME I JUST GOT PKD"

In addition to these changes, the format of the text displayed in the chat windows has been streamlined. We realized 60% of the characters on every line of text was "You say to your fellowship..." and that just stinks.

Treasure System Improvements: Almost all the values used by the treasure system have been touched upon in some form for the January episode, resulting in a number of imbalances. For example, there is a more even distribution of usable weapons and armor for all levels of players, filling many of the "holes" that previously existed in the treasure system. Linvaks as a whole for instance. Nearly any mob you killed on this retarded overcrowed island is level 50 req, and... Not everyone is level 50! ZING! In addition, weapons used by many specialized classes, such as Claw Bearers and Hive Keepers, have damage lesser than Unaro equipment which leaves the class 100% ineffective. If you were dumb enough to be one of these classes, you might be not be dumb now. You're still ugly.

Craft System Improvements: We've examined and improved a number of areas affecting crafting. The first area is mining. I'm not sure why we chose mining, because I don't think a single mine has ever been touched on Darktide.

The trophy items dropped by various creatures will now appear more frequently and on more creatures than before. This includes the highly sought-after Mimbu carapaces, which have reportedly dropped a total of 9 times on every server combined.

Item Improvement now offers more benefits and is more accessible to all players. If you weren't getting hit by lightning bolt for over 700 damage before, it'll surely happen now. The first tier skills should now be accessible to players level 10 to 25, tier 2 improvements should be accessible to players 25 to 35, and tier 3 should be accessible to players level 35 to 50. I want to personally appoligize for the fact that tier 1 was the only thing that was working. I didn't even know there was a second tier until this last weekend!

Another crafting area addressed in this episode is Dyeing. If you want to totally destroy your armor for no reason other than having matching colors, you can do it now. All the fun that was had with color-coding in UO has now been lost completely. Bermuda Triangle. Seros' dart frogs. LONG GONE.

Workshops and recipes are now displaying more information for crafters. Considering there isn't a single crafter on Darktide, the only function of a workshop is appearing as a white dot on the radar. It'll be this way for probably another year, when all the buildings in cities are replaces with fantastic new REPAIRED_BUILDING textures. I'm bursting with joy.

Finally, the items created by the Armor and Weapon crafting skills have also been revised. HAHA go back to killing a zillion banderlings, because crafted armor smokes more pole than the chick that won your local hawaiian tropic bikini contest.

- E N H A N C E M E N T S -

The snow has crept down the mountains of Osteth, covering the continent in a blanket of white and freezing many of the rivers solid! Snow can also be seen gracing the mountain tops of Omishan. YOU'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO USE 100% TRANSPARENCY. JAJAJAJAJAJA

The various caches left behind by the Kingdoms are providing even WORSE treasure! You'll have an endless supply of level 28 req human pants!

We have increased the arc in which position-dependent skills (such as Backstab) do additional damage from 90 degrees to 180 degrees, because modems are strong, and made of metal.

The types of musical instruments that can be found have been increased. (this one really owns, nothing to change here!)

Various terrain issues have been found and addressed. Monsters will probably still spawn 100% stuck, BUT IF THE GET KNOCKED BACK THERE IS NOW A 19% CHANCE OF THEM ACTUALLY MOVING.

Fellowship members can no longer be the target of an area of effect skill, but they can still be harmed by these skills if they are within the skill's "blast radius" and are in a KvK or FFA zone. A complete fix for this issue will be introduced in a future episode. I eat paint chips.

Many NPCs will no longer advance the player's quest if the player has a full inventory and cannot receive an item needed to complete the quest. BECAUSE THE MIST OPAL IS A SOUGHT AFTER ITEM THAT BRINGS YOU BEAUTY AND POWER.

- MISCELLANEOUS UI ENHANCEMENTS - (too long, didn't read)

The health values for nearby fellowship and monsters now update at a faster rate, so instead of seeing someones health drop from 1100 to 0 in 3 seconds, you can now see it in real time, in the actual 0.43 seconds which transpired.

A bug that was preventing many avatars' heads from being displayed in first person mode has been corrected. If you use first person mode in this game I'm going to eat your children.

The setting for "Shore Details" will now be saved between sessions, instead of automatically reverting to "Medium" each time the client is launched. CAN A NIGGA GET A LAP DANCE?

All known issues causing "floating shorelines" have been corrected. In addition, shore effects should no longer be appearing in smaller standing pools of water. I have no idea what he's talking about because I took the Arwic to Kehan portal and have been lost for days.

Chat windows should be scrolling correctly again. MS started the mousewheel, so this was the first conveinance thing that we attempted to break. Mission accomplished, dicksmooches.

The raise skill option is no longer shown for skills at their maximum level. Your hopes of having reap at 51 have been SHOT DOWN.

The "/alias shortcut" and "/shortcut" commands now places the alias in the proper shortcut slot. Not a single person has enough fingers to switch shortcut bars consitantly and effectively, so this will help you put your /love macro on bar #3, right after /cyber and /reacharound.

Upon completion of a quest, players will now receive a message informing them of how much experience they gained from the quest. Hopefully your /f chat will no longer be spammed with "WOW THAT ONE GOT ME 10,000,000(or 15,000,000)". We did this JUST IN CASE there was a person playing this game who HASN'T been through either of these quests.

The "/AFK" emote now displays floating Z's above your head, so people will actively seek you out and slaughter you without mercy.

In the character creation screen, Tumerok females are placed next to the Human and Lugian females. Girl power! Oh, and Tumerok males are over by the men now as well. None of us at Turbine have gotten laid since July, 1996.

The cool down timer on many skills, such as creating Turrets, can no longer be circumvented through unintended use of the skill system. http://www.r33t.org/errors/403.gif

We have found and corrected a few areas in the client that could lead to it consuming more and more of the system's memory. What is this Linvak Tukal place that I keep hearing about? WE WOULDN'T ATTEMPT TO FIX PROBLEMS IN AN IMAGINARY TOWN. You all are so silly, there is no town named Linvak Tukal and EVEN IF THERE WAS there wouldn't be a horrendous there ANYWAYS. Grow up.

Players should no longer see situations in which skill credits are not immediately returned when a skill is untrained. After all, it's pretty hard killing a crawlspace vermin in order to get it to successfully untrain.

Monsters and pets should now be able to follow you better, especially since nobody should be moving at Mach9 anymore.

The experience point reduction code for killing monsters that cannot reach a character or otherwise react has been enhanced. Buruns, however, given their EXTREMLY BADASS sounds will still be trappable and we ENCOURAGE you to exploit them. As much as possible. ALERT THAT CLUTCH. ALERT IT INTO THE GODDAMN GROUND.

Characters can no longer regenerate their health and vigor while in midair. STFU BUNNYHOPPING STRAFE JUMPING NEWB

Falling humans now have the correct falling animation. We're saving that 'attempting to fit a 5" (in diameter) buttplup up the browneye' animation for a later, NC-17, date.

Several effects that stop all movement on an enemy (by setting the enemy's actual movement speed to zero) were not actually allowing the enemy to slow to a stop, causing the target to "rubber band" back and forth. This has been corrected. We suck at math.

Health regeneration potions now have more accurate descriptions of their effects. Since they were so valuable and all, seeing that one does 80-100 per tick and another does 85-105 per tick will really save your ass in battle when you're getting hit by gearknight triple attacks for 1600 points of damage in a single round. What's the HP of a full vitae level 50 player again? OH YEAH.

The damage of crafted bows has been lowered to be in line with bows generated by the treasure system. We waited this long to fix this because... We took a poll and it came to our attention that 9,985 people out of 10,000 stopped crafting at tier 4.

Female characters can once again wear crafted robes. You are all 37 year old overweight white men. You wear plenty of robes around the house, now your pretty avatar can too.

Items labeled on the map as "Chemical Stills" and mines labeled as "Fumaroles" have been renamed as "Acid Stills" in both locations. Fumarole isn't in anyone vocabulary, and we wanted zero confusion when it comes to something as important as acid.

The Thornling Master Rogue spawn has been moved from the Lost Wish Mountains to the southwest Mad Crone Mountains. We should just place all monsters in one of the starting 3 cities, since everyone MA/IF's to level 20 anyways.

The "Aunmauri's Vengeance" effect given by the Obelisk quest now increases your combat damage by a few points, as was intended, instead of increasing your run velocity through the roof. We REALLY suck at math. We suck at hotfixes too. Nothing to see here, move along.

The pet Steppe Armoredillo, awarded to players who complete the "Dillo Rustlers" quest, now has 2,000 hit points. At this rate, in 7 more patches it'll be up to it's original 12,000 hp mark.

The experience reward given by Tyrants and Giguraths has been reduced to 10% of its previous value. The recommended group to tackle these mobs is now 33 players, of which include at least 5 vitae healers to try to ease the pain of the people who get hit for 600 by the AE fire attack and then have it tick instantly for another 600 points. 33 players splitting the astounding 140,000 exp will be able to reach level 50 by 2016. Look at it this way, once you're level 50, you'll be able to play TF2 on your other PC while leveling on tyrants. Reducing the experience was a much easier fix than removing those pesky pixels that tyrants get stuck on.

Tyrants now have a ranged fireball attack. Not only do the 60,000 hp level 60 storm tyrants give you 140k exp, but they also aggro to any player in the ENTIRE RADAR and spit fireballs at you about 3 seconds before the animation actually finishes. They shoot an average of 3.33 fireballs per animation, coupled with their melee attacks and fire AE they do about 2,500 dmg per second to every single player within 2 radar rings of the tyrant. MAN DOWN.

Many objects that can be dropped on the ground from the player's inventory are now ethereal and will no longer block player or creature movement. If you were using bags to trap Ryth, you can probably still use them because we here at Turbine are totally and completely incompetant.
