Pour les plugins je ne sais pas. :)

Wasabi stands for “Winamp System Architecture Building Interface. Or something.” Simply put Wasabi is the coding platform for Winamp3. Think of it like the relationship between OS and an application (example: Microsoft Word’s interaction with Windows). In automotive terms, Wasabi is the metal frame around which the rest of the vehicle is built.

Wasabi is designed to be a kick-ass system for creating Winamp (and other programs) consisting of a main kernel (currently studio.exe in the case of Winamp3), a variable number of additional user-added components (similar in concept to but more powerful than WA2 plug-ins), and a user-selected skin. Nearly all aspects of the user interface and experience are configurable and customizable.

Another way to picture Wasabi and its relationship to components and scripts is to view it like a planet. You see there are layers as so:

Skins ( Scripts ( Components ( Core ) Components ) Scripts ) Skins

Break out your shovels folks, we got some excavating to do.
The outermost layer is the skin, the terrain of the planet if you will. Start digging and soon you will reach the script layer which are made to use the functionality allotted by the components, do visual things (skin animation, fading, etc.) and also take the place of components where it would be impractical to write something so complex for a simple function (example: an alarm script to start Winamp playing at a certain time of day). Dig a little further and you will reach the components level. Components do system processing. They are, in most cases, the program itself. If you can picture this layer of the planet as not being static (capable of being manipulated) allowing them to be removed and replaced with ease, giving Wasabi its modular capabilities. Finally we reach the molten core that is Wasabi. Wasabi is the foundation upon which all things are built, doing most of the basic interaction with the operating system and such.

Eventually a stand alone Wasabi SDK will be released providing a simple engine from which other applications (not just media players) can be made which are skinable, cross-platform compatible and are also able to use the functionality taken from other Wasabi coded programs. Example: if someone were to write a skinable newsreader application in Wasabi it would automatically be able to use the Italian translation services that someone else wrote for Winamp.

Don’t get any of that? You don’t need to; this all goes on behind the scenes without the need for the average end user to have any knowledge of it.

:) *delete wasabi*
